About Lou
I could start by telling you where I was born and then go on with my resume; in reverse chronological order. Thus leading up to my becoming a franchise consultant with FranNet. But that bio stuff isn't what you have a burning need to know right now, is it? I could be wrong, but perhaps you're wondering, "Can this guy, Lou Lavetan, help me hack through the jungle of franchise opportunities? Does he know what it's like to make major a decision like this? Does he even give a rip about me?"
If I said that the answers to those three questions are Yes! Yes! and Yes! Would you believe me? I thought not. So, if you have a minute, please let me tell you about one of the worst days of my life back in 1988.
I had a regular job. What matters about this job is they fired me. That's right. But the fact is: I was jobless. No income. Feeling betrayed, angry, and a bit foolish, I realized I'd put my ability to earn a living, my ability to provide for my family in someone else's hands. . . someone whose priorities weren't the same as mine. Never again would I put up with the politics of working in someone else's business. Never again would I suffer the uncertainty of worrying if my job was secure.
Does that scenario sound familiar to you? Are you searching for an alternative to being a mere cog in someone else's wheel? Just as you are doing now, I started looking into being a franchisee. I haven't regretted the decision once. No one can fire me. Ever Every day I help people like you who are tired of the pain of politics, sick of the uncertainty and insecurity that arise from working for someone else.
During my 11 years as a Mail Boxes Etc. franchisee (now The UPS Store), I owned and managed my own location, while laying foundations for 23 more stores. Consistently ranking in the top 200 units nationwide, I earned the Bronze Eagle (superior operations) award for 9 consecutive years. I helped prospective owners with the franchise validation and investigation process. I provided ongoing field support and was involved in networking and training for over 300 stores in the Mid Atlantic Region. I was helping franchisees succeed. Isn't that more important to know than the name of the town where I was born?
In 1999 I sold my area license and store and became partners in a maid service franchise. Responsible for sales, advertising and public relations, I set record revenues in the early stages of the business. Taking on the consultant role in 2004 was a natural way to share my franchise experiences. My passion is helping others find the career freedom I enjoy. My clients tell me that my first-hand experience in the franchise industry helped them get a feel for franchise ownership. If any of that sounds like the kind of help you're ready for, contact me.
